Biography
Robert Gildea is emeritus professor of modern history at the University of Oxford is emeritus professor of modern history at the University of Oxford. His Marianne in Chains: In Search of Occupied France won the Wolfson History Prize in 2003. His other publications include Fighters in the Shadows: A New History of the French Resistance (2015), Backbone of the Nation: Mining Communities and the Great Strike of 1984-85 (2023) and France since 1945 (2025).
